Description: Improvisational piecing and lots of scraps combine to create artsy triangle quilts, which are easy to piece and fabulous to look at! Add to the fun by swapping scraps with other quilters in class. Choose from four different base units, with multiple size and layout options You will want to make more than one of these quilts!
Fabric Requirements:
**NOTE** Because there are many size and design options for this class, the fabric requirements are approximate. Although additional “scrap” fabrics may be added as you work, if you want to use one consistent fabric for your background, get more yardage than you think you need or use a fabric that is readily and widely available (for example, a Kona Cotton Solid).
Fabrics:
- Background – Solid, tone-on-tone and/or small-scale print, subtle batik (monotone or just a couple of colors) or hand-dyed
- Wall hanging – 1 yard
- Baby – 2 yards
- Lap – 3 yards
- Bed – 4 to 6 yards
- Borders (optional) – medium or large scale, multi-colored print – may be chosen after the center of the quilt is completed.
- Wall hanging – 3/4 yard
- Baby – 1 1/4 yards (cut lengthwise)
- Lap – 1 3/4 yards (cut lengthwise)
- Bed – 2 – 2 1/2 yards (cut lengthwise)
- Triangles – fabrics can be totally scrappy or a more controlled color palette
- lots and lots of scraps (any shapes and sizes)
- triangle cut-offs from “sew and flip” or “snowball” corners
- leftover jelly roll strips
- 2″ to 3″ squares (or any sizes in between) – it is not necessary to cut these to an exact size
- Equipment
- Sewing machine, with foot pedal, accessories, extra needles, etc
- Thread to match your background fabric
- Rotary cutter and mat
- Rulers – a long ruler (i.e. 6″ or 8 1/2″ x 24″) and a small square ruler (i.e. 6″ x 6″); optional – half square triangle ruler
- Basic sewing supplies (pins, seam ripper, fabric scissors, etc)
