30 – Cabins Under the Stars

Description: AS few as TWO block patterns can make this beautiful quilt. Use a simple technique to make all four “geese” in your stars, so quick and easy! We will work on “Log Cabins”, “Easy Stars”, and if time permits, we’ll make a “Woven Star”. The wow factor is the layout of the cabins.

Fabric/Supply Requirements:

12 1/2″ unfinished star blocks (make 12):

  • 2 1/2 yards or fat quarter equivalents various lights for stars
  • 2 1/2 yards various darks for star backgrounds
  • OPTIONAL: 1/3 yard accent fabric (same as log cabin center squares)

12 1/2″ unfinished log cabin blocks (make 23 total; 12 dark/light, 11 medium/light)

  • 1/4 yard center squares (accent)
  • 2 3/4 yards various lights (cream)
  • 1 3/4 yards various mediums (gray)
  • 1 3/4 yards various darks (black)
  • 2 yards inner and outer border
  • 1 yard center border

Borders can be a variety of sizes to finish to your desired size.

  • Rotary ruler
  • 12 1/2″ square ruler
  • 6 1/2″ square ruler
  • Pencil & thin ruler (1/2″ wide) for drawing diagonal sewing lines
  • Rotary cutter (with new blade)
  • Rotary mat
  • Machine Needles
  • Neutral Thread
  • Bobbins filled with neutral thread
  • Straight pins
  • Sewing machine, cleaned and oiled
  • Small scissors
