Description:
It’s just one block AND there’s no curved piecing! I know it’s hard to imagine but this quilt is so much simpler than it looks. This three-color kaleidoscope quilt is a great introduction into the fabric/color placement that makes kaleidoscope quilts so beautiful. We will focus our learning on fabric choices, color placement and piecing. I had so much fun with this quilt and have already started planning my next multi-colored kaleidoscope quilt.
Fabric/Supply Requirements:
Here is the supply list for a three-color quilt. You can certainly make adjustments using these numbers if you want a more scrappy quilt. See my note about fabric choices at the bottom.
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of dark reds
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of light reds
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of dark green
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of light green
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of dark blue
(6) width of fabric 4 1/2″ (1/8 yard) strips of light blue
(We are using the entre 4 1/2″, so don’t let the fabric store short you.)
1 1/2 yards light fabric for the triangle corners (I used all the same fabric, but you can choose any combination of 1 1/2 yards of light fabric for the triangles.)
45 Degree Kaleidoscope and Dresden Plate Quilt Ruler (I use Creative Grids.)
Colored Pencils (in the colors of your fabrics so we can color a planning diagram)
The usual cutting mat, rulers, and your own iron and mat if you choose (a classroom iron will be provided).
Basic Sewing Kit
NOTE ABOUT FABRIC CHOICES: When choosing fabrics for this quilt, avoid large scale prints or prints with too much white space. You want your entire triangle to be visible and not lost in the variety of fabrics.
