Description: This wall hanging takes the ancient design of Celtic Knots and creates a new look in applique. For this project we will be making our own bias tape to create a unique design. The technique can also be used to create lettering, stems, and other designs for your appliqued quilts. You can either hand applique or machine applique your design.

Fabric Requirements:

  • 1/3 yard of two contrasting fabrics for the knots
  • 16″ square for background
  • (2) 12″ squares, cut in half for setting triangles
  • 1/3 yard fabric for sashing around block and knots in setting triangles
  • 1/4 yard of border fabric
  • Double sided tape for sewing or applique glue
  • Rotary cutter
  • Basic sewing kit
  • Sewing machine
  • Starch/Best Press
  • Bias pressing bar 1/4″
  • Ruler for cutting at 45* angle to cut fabric on bias
  • Matching thread for applique
  • Tracing paper or light box
  • Tracing pen depending on the color of your background fabric. You will be tracing the pattern onto your fabric, so make sure it will wash out or disappear.
