Description: The lone star in the center of the quilt is created using preprinted fusible interfacing by Quilt Smart.

The borders surrounding the lone star will use multiple piecing and applique techniques. We will go over methods for creating flying geese, half square triangles and basic patchwork as well as applique using fusible interfacing.

The size of the quilt is easily adjusted to fit your needs by simply adding or subtracting the borders used.

Fabric Requirements:

  • 6 1/2″ Triangle Square Up Ruler by Quilt in a Day
  • Large Flying Geese Ruler (2″ x 4″ finished size) by Quilt in a Day
  • 1 panel of 19″ Lone Star Fusible Interfacing by Quilt Smart (will be available to purchase in class for $4.75)
  • Center Star and Background – 1/6 yard EACH of 4 Prints & 1/2 yard Background
  • First Border Blue – 1/8 yard
  • Second Border Background – 5/8 yard
  • Third Border Twisted Ribbon – 5/8 yard Blue and 1/2 yard Cream/Tan
  • Fourth Border Red & Beige Stripe – 1/4 yard
  • Fifth Border Checked – 1/2 yard Red and 1/2 yard Blue
  • Sixth Border Flying Geese – Blue 1/2 Yard and Cream 1/3 yard
  • Seventh Border Appliqué – 1 1/8 yard red and beige stripe, 1 fat quarter brown for vine and leaves, scraps for applique flowers
  • Blue for stars and half square triangle saw tooth – 4 different prints totaling 1 yard
  • beige for background of stars and strips in flag – 6 different 1/4 yard cuts
  • Red for stripes in flag and half square triangle saw tooth – 4 different 1/4 yard cuts
  • Red border – 1/2 yard
  • Beige border – 2/3 yard
  • Blue final border – 2 yards
  • Binding – 1 1/4 yard for bias OR 1 yard for straight
